Tributes are pouring in for a popular late Galway woman following her death with a shop and restaurant closing as a sign of respect.

Mary passed away peacefully at the Blackrock Health Clinic, Galway on Tuesday, May 31, surrounded by her loving family.

Confirming Ms King’s passing on Facebook, the Old Barracks restaurant in Athenry will close its doors for an hour on Friday.

‘Due to the sad loss of our beloved Mother Mary King, The Old Barracks Restaurant and Shop will be closed on Friday June 2nd from 12midday to 1.30pm.

‘May her gentle soul rest peacefully in the arms of the angels…… Charlie Snr, Fiona, Gemma, Clodagh, Olivia & Charles King.

‘May we take this moment to thank all those who helped to care for Mum, our Family, Friends, Neighbours & The Communities of Athenry, Carnmore & Circular road for all their messages of support,’ the post read.

Ms King’s death notice reads: ‘Mary passed away peacefully at the Blackrock Health Clinic, Galway surrounded by her loving family.

‘Predeceased by her beloved son Garret, sister Valeria and son-in-law Cathal. She will be sadly missed by her husband Charlie, daughters Fiona, Clodagh, Olivia, Gemma and son Charles, her sister Eithne, grandchildren Morgan, Mya, Daragh, Luke, Chloe, Nicole and Gavin, sons-in-law Dave and Tom, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends.’

Those who knew Ms King took to RIP.ie to pay their respects to the mother-of-five and share their memories of her.

One person said: ‘Sincere condolences to Charlie and families, saddened by your loss of Mary,may she rest peacefully.’

Another added: ‘Our sincere sympathies to Fiona and all the King family on the passing of your mother Mary. May she rest in peace.’

While someone wrote: ‘My sincere condolences to the King family on the death of Mary, I have lovely childhood memories of her when I stayed in Rockmore, and babysitting. May her gentle soul rest in Peace.’

After reposing at Gardner’s Funeral Home, Athenry on Thursday, Ms King’s funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Assumption, Athenry, on Friday at 11.30am. Burial will follow afterwards in the New Cemetery, Athenry.
