St Kieran’s College are celebrating winning a 24th All-Ireland PP Croke Cup after having 10 points to spare over Presentation College, Athenry in the St Patrick’s Day decider.

A trio of well taken goals from Anthony Ireland Wall, Donagh Murphy and Ted Dunne proved to be the difference as the Kilkenny city school made up for defeat against Ardscoil Ris of Limerick 12 months earlier.

The game was tightly fought in the opening period where man of the match Rory Glynn proved to be the ace in attack for the winners as he scored four points from play.

Athenry stayed in the fight with Tiarnan Leen and Aaron Niland proving influential but it was Kieran’s who led 1-7 to 0-8 at the interval after Anthony Ireland Wall scored a cracking individual goal.

Kieran’s took full control of the game in the second period as they restricted Presentation College to just four points where Donagh Murphy’s 39th minute goal essentially put the tie beyond the reach of an Athenry team that were aiming to win their first title.

Ted Dunne then added on a stoppage time goal as Kieran’s finished off the game in style.
