Color has been a big topic when it comes to kitchens this year, particularly the biggest kitchen color cabinet trends, as we see a shift away from the safe neutral hues that have dominated the past few years. And it seems we’re all ready for a change in 2025.

While classic neutrals will never go out of style, there are some alternative hues making their mark. Your kitchen cabinet color is a great place to experiment, so why not try one of these trending hues this year? Here’s what the experts suggest.
1. Muted hues

Dark, moody hues dominated last year, bringing drama and depth to kitchen schemes of every style. But we’re seeing quite the opposite emerging this year, with softer, muted alternatives proving more popular than ever.
‘I think kitchen cabinets are moving towards softer, muted colors. While boldly colored cabinets are still a popular – and showstopping – choice, softer versions of the same hues, like green, blue, or burgundy are what’s new and next,’ says interior designer Bethany Adams.
‘Pale colors pair beautifully with medium to dark-toned woods like walnut, unlacquered brass or polished nickel finishes, and classic natural stones like Carrara marble,’ she adds, which are materials and finishes that are proving to be enduringly popular.
2. Warm browns

Decorating with brown made a strong comeback in interior design last year, and it’s a color trend that’s made its way into kitchens, too. And for 2025, rich brown kitchens of varying shades are key for cozy schemes.
‘We are still seeing brown paint colors trending upwards as people continue to lean into warmer, cozier hues. People are looking to colors outside of gray and navy when searching for the perfect darker hue,’ says Arianna Barone, color marketing manager at Benjamin Moore.
‘Browns, like Wenge AF-180, French Press AF-170, and Char Brown 2137-20, offer a sophisticated but still warm approach. They are versatile and work with different textures and substrates found in kitchens and are a great way to make a statement-making space,’ she explains.
3. Pale muted pinks

No one could have predicted the return of the pink kitchen, but it’s a color that’s proving surprisingly chic. But it’s all in the shades. We aren’t talking Barbie pinks, but rather softer, more muted variations.
‘We know that gentle soft pinks can be very complimentary for the complexion, making them a great choice for the bathroom. But with that in mind, why not use this flattering shade in the kitchen, the room we seem to spend most time in?’ says Patrick O’Donnell, brand ambassador at Farrow & Ball.
Pink is a more versatile cabinet color trend than you might think. You can pair it with green for a bold, colorful scheme, or combine it with warm whites, like in this kitchen, for a classically elegant design.
4. Butter yellows

Butter yellow is the color of 2025, bringing a soft yet saturated hue to every room of the home. But butter yellow kitchens in particular are trending, creating a warming atmosphere in cooking spaces.
It’s the perfect middle ground between neutral and colorful without feeling like an overwhelming hue. In this kitchen, butter yellow cabinets pair with white walls and a wooden kitchen island to create the most timeless scheme.
5. Rich pale creams
There have been so many different neutrals considered the best recently. We’ve had beige, greige, and even taupe, but 2025 is all about cream kitchen cabinets, a light but warm hue.
‘We are installing cabinets in rich but pale creams – we think of it as a clotted cream, which works subtly alongside muted butter yellow tones, just a shade or two darker. We then add an authentic darker shade, such as mossy green or greeny brown,’ Helen Parker, creative director at deVOL Kitchens.
‘Styling these rooms with vintage cream pudding bowls, plain linens as base cupboard curtains, and big wooden platters gives a simple, humble look to a room. Scale is important, try to source bigger items rather than lots of small bits and bobs. A large mixing bowl on an old French piece of linen sitting on a cream prep table is the ultimate look for simplicity and understated style.’
6. Earthy green hues

Let’s be honest, we all consider green as a neutral at this point. Every year, at least one shade dominates kitchen cabinet color trends. In 2025, it’s earthier tones that are at the forefront of designs.
‘Earthy greens such as olive, moss, and sage are proving to be a defining color choice in kitchens this year. These tones bring a sense of depth and calm, while connecting the space to the natural world outside,’ says Gareth Hull, design lead at Hendel & Hendel.
‘We’re increasingly seeing these greens alongside wood cabinetry to create contrast and texture. Whether it’s a painted island or a full run of base cabinets, the combination of green and wood offers both visual interest and lasting appeal.’
7. Shades of cashmere

Soft, calming shades, particularly those that fall under the warm neutrals category, are becoming a go-to over stark whites for a more pared-back yet inviting kitchen scheme. And these tones work beautifully on kitchen cabinets.
‘Warm neutrals such as cashmere, mushroom, and stone are becoming increasingly popular for kitchen cabinets. These tones offer a softer alternative to gray, bringing warmth without overpowering a space,’ explains Richard Davonport, managing director at Davonport.
‘Aged brass or matt black hardware can provide subtle contrast, while classic cabinetry styles such as Shaker or Georgian lend themselves well to this palette. The result is a kitchen that feels balanced, practical, and suited to a range of interior styles, as well as being timeless, even if it is an on-trend color.’
8. Calming light blues

In 2025 so far we have seen plenty of love for decorating with blue. But not just any shade of blue, specifically light, powder blues which create a soothing space. Since this color trend is so liveable, it works especially well with color-drenching ideas, taking the color beyond the cabinets to the walls, too.
‘Soft blue is such a beautiful choice for kitchen cabinets,’ says interior designer Honey Collins. ‘I love how the shade can bring a sense of calm and freshness to a space while remaining versatile throughout the day. The way the color interacts with natural light can make a room feel vibrant and cozy at different times, giving it a dynamic and ever-changing atmosphere.’
9. Soft charcoals

While black kitchen cabinets saw appeal throughout 2024, consider going for a slightly less harsh dark charcoal for an on-trend look in 2025. ‘A dark charcoal such as Sherwin-Williams’ Iron Ore is one of our current studio favorites,’ says Julia Lauve, co-founder of Dallas-based design firm WORKSHOP Studio.
‘This rich color is softer than a true black, but still packs a moody punch. In this kitchen, a modern double shaker profile serves as a major upgrade to standard farmhouse white cabinetry. We love using this color with rich, unlacquered brass cabinet hardware, and black plumbing fixtures for an extra wow factor.’
10. Stains over paint colors

Unpainted kitchen cabinets are a big trend for 2025 so for a really on-trend and yet classic look opt for a stain over a color. And as wood kitchen cabinets cement themselves as a timeless classic, there’s never been a better time to embrace this natural finish.
‘I always like to use stained wood for kitchen cabinets. I think it is more durable and easier to maintain over the years. These cabinets from Henrybuilt have a great aesthetic that works in a house that is more transitional than modern,’ explains designer Holly A Kopman.
‘We added the crown around the top of the cabinets to tie into the rest of the house. We used a walnut that has a blue tint, which is really beautiful in person. The clients love the color blue, and this finish could not have been more perfect for the open floor plan of the house. The stain color also looks great with the invisible blue quartzite countertops.’
