5 Appliance Trends That Will Influence Kitchen Design in 2025
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and in 2025, many designers predict we’ll be seeing some major developments in this key area of the house. We spoke with a handful of pros who share some 2025 kitchen design trends we can expect to make major waves in just a few months’ time. Keep reading to learn more about the latest developments in appliance design, smart features, and more.
Induction Cooktops
Induction cooktops are functional in more ways than one, and Hema Persad appreciates their efficiency as well as the “sleek, almost invisible, look.” Plus, the founder of Segrada Studio (and Real Simple Home alum!) adds that an induction cooktop comes in handy even when it’s turned off. Due to its flat surface, “it doubles as additional counter space instead of a whole 42 inches of countertop space that you can’t use because it is taken up by a stove,” she says.
Deluxe Wine Fridges
Why go out for vino when you can stay in? Becky Shea, founder of Becky Shea Design, is incorporating more and more wine fridges with integrated freezer and fridge drawers into homes.
“It’s not just being used in kitchens—it’s also popular in bars, dens, and home lounges,” she says. “People are leaning more toward entertaining at home, and this has become a staple that really hits the mark for many.”
Voice-Activated Appliances
Those who constantly chat with Alexa will appreciate the advent of voice-activated appliances that operate similarly to everyone’s favorite Amazon device. “They offer convenience to home cooks who have their hands full,” says Linette Dai, the founder of Linette Dai Design. “It also provides easy accessibility for those with mobility needs.”
AI Capabilities
AI will play a role in shaping how appliances perform, too. “Manufacturers like GE, Miele, and Samsung are pioneering advanced appliances to include features like Smart Food ID systems, where built-in cameras, paired with AI, can identify a dish and suggest optimal cooking modes,” shares Vyanca Soto, the founder of Market Studio Interiors. “It’s exciting to witness how AI is transforming our living spaces and bringing us closer to functional and highly personalized systems that truly enrich daily life.”
Other Tech Features
Other techy appliance features we can expect to see next year include smartphone integration, UV sanitation, and sustainability-related functions. “One of my personal favorites is Miele’s AutoDos dishwasher, which measures how many dishes are in the chamber and precisely adapts the water consumption,” designer Ania Agárdy says.
Black, Beige, and Cream Finishes
Say goodbye to solely stainless steel options in the kitchen. “For those who don’t want stainless steel to affect the design aesthetic of their kitchen, we are seeing more companies produce their appliance in a sleek black finish,” Dai says. The designer adds that we can expect to come across more beige and cream-colored appliances, too.
Colorful ranges will be rising in popularity next year, too, adds Tiffany Matthews, the founder of Motif Homes. “The range serves as the focal point of the kitchen, and we believe it deserves to shine,” she says.
