Boomitra’s South America Grassland Restoration Project Achieves Verra Registration

Boomitra announced that its grassland restoration initiative in Argentina and Paraguay has officially achieved registration by Verra.

This milestone follows the successful registrations of three other Boomitra projects positioned in Kenya, Mexico, and India, fortifying the company’s global presence and its leading market role in carbon removal through agricultural practices.

Established in 2021, the South America Grassland Restoration Project spans 76,355 acres of critical grassland ecosystems across Argentina and Paraguay.

This initiative helps ranchers in the iconic Pampas ecosystem implement regenerative grazing practices that contribute towards improved soil health, enhanced biodiversity, and an increase in land productivity.

The Pampas region is exposed to risks from land-use change, unmanaged grazing, and abandonment, factors that significantly bring down the levels of organic carbon in soils.

Through its activities in this area, Boomitra presents a solution for these challenges by supporting ranchers in adopting regenerative practices that restore the soil and unlock economic benefits. In its first monitoring period, the South America Grassland Restoration Project successfully connected with a network of 21 ranchers.

According to Boomitra, since its launch, this project has managed to sequester 100,000 tonnes of CO₂, reaching an estimated annual carbon dioxide removal volume of 38,159 tonnes.

During its total crediting period of 20 years, Boomitra projects that this initiative will be able to remove more than 763,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The company has the ambition of converting this project into one of the largest soil carbon initiatives in South America, and to that end, it has already locked in an additional several thousand acres of land, aiming to expand with an extra 500,000 acres over the next three years.

Commenting on the Verra registration, Aadith Moorthy, founder and CEO of Boomitra, stated, “With registered projects now spanning four continents, we’re proving that regenerative practices supported by cutting-edge technology can deliver meaningful climate action and economic benefits to farmers and ranchers across diverse landscapes.”
