The Conservation Halton Foundation hosted its sixth annual gala on June 13 in celebration of the blue spaces in Conservation Halton’s watersheds.
The Blue Gala raised over $280,000 for major stream, creek and wetland restoration projects, including initiatives underway in Carlisle, Flamborough and Milton.
“Clean and abundant water is our life blood. Conservation Halton manages and restores local creeks and their watersheds and educates communities about the importance of protecting these precious natural systems for existing and future generations,” said Barbara Veale, Acting CAO of Conservation Halton.
“Blue paid tribute to this important work. We are grateful for the support of our local mayors, councillors, sponsors, donors and partners who helped us build awareness and raise significant funds for our restoration efforts.”
Surrounded by nature at Kelso Conservation Area, over 330 guests attended the event which featured a cocktail reception and seated dinner supported by presenting sponsors, Argo Development Corp and Mattamy Homes.
Guests heard from keynote speaker Adam van Koeverden, Member of Parliament for Milton and one of Canada’s most celebrated athletes. Throughout the evening, guests also enjoyed live music, lawn games, and a silent auction and 50/50 raffle that helped the Conservation Halton Foundation exceed its event fundraising target.
“Each year, our gala is an opportunity for us to celebrate the incredible work of Conservation Halton with our closest supporters and friends,” said Garner Beckett, executive director of the Conservation Halton Foundation.
“This year, we put the focus on our local watercourses and wetlands. These spaces are integral to the health of our watersheds and to the wellbeing of our communities – they sustain, inspire and connect us.”
The Conservation Halton Foundation’s annual gala is the organization’s signature fundraiser. Each year, it introduces a unique theme to spotlight Conservation Halton’s parks and priorities in environmental conservation, outdoor recreation, and education.
