Jenny Marrs Shares Genius Space-Saving Kitchen Design Hack

HGTV fans loved Jenny Marrs‘ beautiful kitchen design that was part of a January 2025 episode of “Fixer to Fabulous.” Marrs shared one of her space-saving hacks for kitchens that makes a huge difference and explains why her designs are so flawless.
Jenny Marrs’ Kitchen Design Preference Frees Up Counter Space
Dave and Jenny Marrs’ renovation for the season 6 “Overnight Overhaul” episode of “Fixer to Fabulous” was so impressive. Fans especially loved the kitchen space, which was warm and inviting.
In her January 29 Instagram Stories, Marrs invited fans to ask questions about the episode. One eagle-eyed viewer wondered why the kitchen renovation didn’t have a microwave.
There’s a good reason for that, it turns out.
“I noticed the microwave was missing in the renovated kitchen,” one fan noted. “Did you put one in?”
There is, in fact, a microwave — it’s just tucked out of sight.
“Yep! It’s hidden behind the cabinet doors next to the fridge!” Marrs revealed. “I always try to hide a microwave behind doors when I can.”
The HGTV star added, “Less appliances visible and more cabinetry is always my preference.” It also frees up counter space!

Fans were also interested in the other design details in the kitchen — like those perfect neutral cabinet and wall colors: Farrow & Ball Drop Cloth (cabinets) and Benjamin Moore Simply White (walls).
Marrs gave the complete rundown of the home renovation project on her website, with before and after photos that show off the amazing turnaround.
“The kitchen already had a great open floor plan but needed some updates to bring it to life,” she explained in her blog post.
“The original plan was to keep the existing lower cabinets and only change out the cabinet doors. This is a good way to save money and time,” Marrs noted. “But it turned out to be a complete transformation, thanks to Chris, our talented cabinet maker. He went above and beyond, crafting brand-new cabinets in his Arkansas workshop and bringing them in on the day of the build.”
The HGTV star pointed out that new appliances, quartz countertop, new lighting, and fresh paint were also part of the revamp.
The renovation was a labor of love for a deserving St. Jude family who had been through so much. In 24 hours, the Marrs family and a team of volunteers made the project possible.
“It was absolutely incredible to see over 150 volunteers come together to make this dream a reality,” Marrs wrote. “From electricians to roofers, everyone gave their time and talent to bring these spaces to life.”
She added, “What’s more, this $100K renovation was completely funded by donations — from furniture to the tiniest details like gutters.”
